Civil Lawfare in Stillwater Oklahoma: Violations of Civil Rights Are Expensive Endeavors

STILLWATER, Okla., (The Oklahoma Post) –

We are stepping back to look at a few Oklahoma cases in Oklahoma in which blatant disregard for parental rights and children’s rights have been violated. What is the total cost to society? After we go through three individual family court cases in one district alone, we believe you will be outraged not just at the story of injustice, but at the financial burdens.

The cost of abusive legal actions, especially when courts operate under the color of law to suppress civil rights, extends far beyond the individuals directly involved. Taxpayers bear the financial burden, funding drawn-out litigation, unnecessary court proceedings, and government agencies that fail to act justly. Children suffer immeasurably, losing valuable time with their parents, enduring emotional distress, and often experiencing lasting damage to their self-esteem. Careers are derailed because the corruption is always caught, as individuals caught in legal abuse such as innocent parents face job loss, financial ruin, and the inability to move forward in their lives. These systemic failures erode public trust in the judiciary, reinforcing a cycle where the legal system is weaponized against certain individuals while those in power remain unaccountable. The cost to society is not just monetary, it is a deep, structural issue that diminishes faith in justice and harms families, livelihoods, and future generations.

Stillwater Is Not a Business Oasis

Darrell Dougherty, a Stillwater, Oklahoma, business owner, has faced years of legal and civil rights challenges at the hands of local authorities. His trouble began in 2014 when he alleged that his ex-wife’s boyfriend physically harmed his child. However, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) and the Stillwater Police Department failed to conduct a proper investigation, leaving Dougherty in a prolonged legal battle. As his divorce case made its way to the Oklahoma Supreme Court, in an effort to cover up blatant corruption, OKDHS, local officials, including the Stillwater Police Department and the mayor, have seemingly worked against him, refusing to acknowledge his complaints and obstructing his ability to seek justice.

Most recently, when Dougherty’s business was damaged due to an individual’s actions, Stillwater Police refused to take a report, preventing him from filing an insurance claim. He believes this is yet another example of targeted bias, where law enforcement and local government use procedural hurdles to suppress certain citizens while protecting others. This pattern of obstruction has led to significant legal expenses, with case-related costs reaching nearly $500,000 at the state level and close to $1 million for the City of Stillwater taxpayers.

This case highlights the broader issue of civil lawfare, where legal systems are weaponized against individuals to drain resources and deny due process. As Dougherty fights back through legal channels and public exposure, his case raises serious concerns about the misuse of power in Oklahoma’s judicial and law enforcement systems. Case began in Stillwater; Payne County Oklahoma’s District 9 Court. Case was moved to District 23.

Judges

Original Elected Judge of District 9 Court was Judge Phillip Corley. According to Darrell, Judge Corley is related to Oklahoma Attorney General Getner Drummond. Judge Corley had is name mentioned in the disciplinary case of Judge Traci Soderstrom. Corley, as the superior judge in Payne County, had many recused cases sent to District 23. Including his sons multiple cases for DUI. Corley is alleged in federal court to have interfered with jury, judges, and case files that were moved outside his jurisdiction. Security footage showed Traci Soderstrom, a now-former judge for Lincoln and Pottawatomie counties, extensively on her phone during the June 2023 trial. The defendant, Khristian Tyler Martzall, was on trial over the 2018 killing of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son. The Pottawatomie County District Court is part of the 23rd District of Oklahoma.
