In Moyer v. Murray, we documented complaints about Worthington. We have audio. Actual audio, the kind you can play at dinner parties (if you’re terrible at dinner parties), of an Assistant DA describing specific corruption. Which must make office holiday parties incredibly awkward.
The Sheriff’s Office repeatedly refused to even take our statement, which is a bit like calling for emergency services and being put on hold. When someone finally picks up, you’re identified as crazy by Officer Dingle on Reno 911. Responsibility, naturally, falls on leadership, including Joe Harper, if he were to kindly move his mustache to the words of “I need to apologize, I may have also ate your cheese,” to show that he were in fact a bigger man than an Officer Dingle type. Proving Sheriff Harper doesn’t just have the theatrical mustache.
Anyway, a whistleblower ADA was later fired. Another quit, presumably to spend more time with their conscience. Price moved to the Tax Commission and was quickly reassigned because nothing says “clean slate” like a lateral shuffle. Etherington is now facing charges in court, which is awkward for everyone, we could say. I guess we have to ask if Butler was supplying photos to the DA office for fun. There is sadly foundation for such an argument.
So I’m asking plainly, the way one might ask a dinner guest why they brought their own silverware, with suspect caution, it’s hard to ask:
Can Laura Thomas manage this office effectively? Is she following Bar guidelines? Why haven’t these issues been referred to OSBI, you know, the agency whose entire job description is “investigate this sort of thing”? Should we send a fruit basket? Staffing issue? Call me old-fashioned, this seems like an opportunity for a younger agent to make a name for themselves. If she were smart she would have suggested Melissa stay in Italy with the Court Reporter and Bailiff.
She had a campaign stance, but if that doesn’t align with her actual work, what’s the point? It’s like promising gluten-free cupcakes and serving Wonder Bread. Her pattern resembles the North Carolina DA who went to prison for lying about cases to secure convictions, then playing patty-cake with local townies. You’d think that would be a cautionary tale, not a playbook.
Why has OSBI stayed silent when the allegations present a serious, documented basis for investigation and removal? Is there a waiting list? A form that got lost?
Photos of Thomas and Lankford are becoming rare. Why? It’s like they’re slowly backing away from each other in group photos.
We keep receiving well-sourced information that her husband has ties to several high-profile defendants who received favorable treatment. One wonders if there’s a loyalty punch card involved. Is there an app? Or is this something tangible I retrieve through the local Chamber of Commerce?
Has former Sheriff Woodward, or others with political associations, recused themselves? Why is there an ethics investigation on JJ Humphrey but a stalled investigation on Drummond and everyone involved with the original Judge Corley donations? Why does Drummond feel entitled to exercise illegal searches and seizures across state lines but can’t seem to handle business in his home districts? It’s giving “do as I say, not as I do,” the official motto of middle management everywhere. Maybe that’s all he’s fit for. His parents just decided otherwise.
Does the District Attorney Council approve her decisions? If so, that’s Drummond. So why won’t Drummond honor the work of law enforcement who publicly supported his Governor run? Or is gratitude now considered optional, like tipping at a buffet?
These are simple questions. The kind you’d ask if you were, say, a journalist. Or breathing.
