Churchill Downs; Louisville, Ky May, 7 (The Oklahoma Post) –
Oklahoma connections and Surfer Dude win Race 2 of the undercard of the 148th Kentucky Derby race card. The strong and improving 3-year-old thoroughbred sped away and looked beautiful in doing so at Churchill Downs this morning.
Surfer Dude finished on top today in the Allowance Optional Claiming Race: $80,000 with a purse of: $128,042.
There are plenty of Oklahoma connections to the breeding and ownership of Surfer Dude. Breeder Ran Leonard’s grandparents were perennial leading owners at Remington Park and the southwest racing circuit. They helped prop up Oklahoma para-mutual gaming as we know it today.
Ran Leonard is a real estate investor in Oklahoma City, is the president and managing partner of CresRan LLC, and Cresent Capital, LLC a Cresent, Ok and Kentucky ranch with dual management in each State, and finally his wife Kristy Payne Leonard formerly of Stillwater.

SURFER DUDE stalked outside of the clear leader down the backstretch, ranged up turning for home to bid for the lead entering the lane, and lasted through to the wire.

Owners are listed as Mark and Nancy Stanley, Trained by Dallas Stewart, and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr.
Bread by CresRan, LLC and funded by Cresent, LLC the barn has exploded with winners since taking over as manager of the rebranded business.
