Norman Ok, April, 3 (The Oklahoma Post) –

OU announced in a press release that the Sooner Football 2022 Spring Game, led by new head coach Brent Venables, will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 3:00 pm in Norman, Ok.

The grand reveal of Sooner legend Baker Mayfield’s Heisman statue will also take place the same day, following the annual spring game. Mayfield won the Heisman in 2017 and threw for over 12,000 yards in his OU career.

There will be a lot of new faces as a new era of Sooner football begins.

From Benny Owen and Bud Wilkinson to Barry Switzer, Bob Stoops, and Lincoln Riley, who recently took the job at the University of Southern California. The head coaching job at Oklahoma has always been one of the most prized jobs in all of college football.

On April 23rd, Brent Venables will join those coaches and start his reign as the new coach of the Oklahoma Sooners. Venables will be the 23rd head coach in Oklahoma Football history. This will officially mark the start of a brand new era for Oklahoma Football. Venables said this when asked whether Oklahoma is heading in the right direction by Brandon Drumm of OU Insider. “I know — and everybody here on this call knows — what the expectations are here at the University of Oklahoma. I know what those look like very clearly. So our commitment to them needs to exceed those expectations. Period.”

Brent Venables will not be the only new face on the field for the spring game. The departure of Lincoln Riley caused a revolving door of players and coaches leaving and joining the program. There will be seven coaches making their Oklahoma coaching debuts in the spring game, including new Offensive Coordinator Jeff Lebby.

Caleb Williams said his goodbye and followed Lincoln Riley to Southern California. As for Spencer Rattler, he took his talents to South Carolina, where he will play for former OU special teams coach Shane Beamer. This left a void at the quarterback position, which needed to be filled. Mililani, Hawaii native and University of Central Florida transfer, Redshirt Junior Dillon Gabriel, will make his senior debut in the Sooner spring game. During his time with the Knights, the lefty gunslinger, Gabriel, threw for 8,037 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, with an average QB rating of 156.9.

OU head coach Brent Venables said this on the OU football Twitter account when asked about the spring game. “I can’t wait to see that passion on display on April 23rd, and my challenge to the fans is to fill up the stadium. As we say all the time inside our walls, ‘Best is the standard.’ Let’s pack the palace and make it a great day for everyone. ”

You can get your tickets for the spring game directly from the OU Athletics Ticket Office.
