STILLWATER, Okla., (The Oklahoma Post) –June 26, 2025
Chance Robert Clements, a former Stillwater High School and Oklahoma State University football standout—and the son of OSU Co-Defensive Coordinator Joe Bob Clements—has been formally charged with extortion under the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.
Clements, once praised for his performance as a redshirt freshman at OSU and later transferred to Emporia State, was arrested by the Stillwater Police Department on April 23, 2025. Initial court documents confirm that he was booked and held on a $5,000 bond after appearing by video before Judge Katherine E. Thomas. The preliminary hearing began on June 9, 2025, and was reset to July 7.
On June 16, 2025, the State of Oklahoma officially filed felony criminal charges in Payne County District Court (Case No. CF-2025-185), alleging Clements violated 21 O.S. § 1953(A)(2) by committing extortion through the use of electronic or computer-based threats. The case has now been assigned to Judge Jason Reese.
This case is drawing widespread attention not just because of Chance’s local athletic legacy, but because of the deeper concerns it raises about privilege, institutional influence, and oversight in small-town Oklahoma. With his father Joe Bob Clements once entrenched in OSU’s football program, many are questioning whether Chance’s townie status kept coverage on the hush over the past few months, delayed serious scrutiny, and the DA’s lacking intervention.
