STILLWATER, Okla., (The Oklahoma Post) – September 14th, 2025
A minor earthquake was recorded northeast of Stillwater over the weekend, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The event measured magnitude 2.0 and occurred at a depth of approximately seven kilometers.
The epicenter was located near Highway 177, a few miles from downtown Stillwater. Residents described the tremor as a short jolt or faint vibration. No injuries or structural damage have been reported.
Earthquakes of this size are considered low-impact. While they rarely cause harm, they can still be felt by those living close to the epicenter. The Oklahoma Geological Survey confirmed monitoring the event and continues to track seismic activity in the region.
Oklahoma has experienced increased seismic activity over the last decade, often linked to wastewater injection in oil and gas operations. However, many of the state’s recent quakes including this one, are natural, low-magnitude events.
Local emergency officials remind residents to remain prepared, even for small earthquakes. Recommended precautions include securing heavy furniture, keeping emergency supplies on hand, and reporting any unusual damage following a tremor.
For Stillwater, the weekend quake was a brief reminder that the ground beneath Oklahoma remains active and occasionally makes itself known.
